JOB DESCRIPTION – KENNETT HIGH SCHOOL

 

POSITION:                           Special Education Coordinator

 

QUALIFICATIONS:           

  1. NH Certification in Special Education with an extensive background in administration
  2. Familiarity with services and programs
  3. Ability to conceptualize, organize, and implement change
  4. Knowledge of special education laws and process
  5. Proven ability to communicate effectively

 

REPORTS TO:      Principal

 

SUPERVISES:                      Special education teachers, instructional aides, and related services staff at Kennett High School.

 

JOB GOAL:                          The Special Education Coordinator will provide visionary leadership in the development and maintenance of special education programs and services at KHS that will best promote the educational growth of the students.  Works in close association with building administrators of the elementary schools to provide a coordinated delivery of services to all grade levels K-12 through consultation.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Pupil Services

  • Ensure full compliance with state and federal guidelines
  • Ensure the implementation of IEP’s by both special and regular education teachers
  • Serve as LEA representative on Special Education Teams
  • Provide consultation to special and regular education teachers
  • Supervise and coordinate the yearly scheduling of special education students at KHS

Program Development

  • Implement and evaluate effective programs based on needs, quality, and cost-effectiveness, and make recommendations to the Director of Special Services
  • Provide for consultation on special education process, curriculum, and programming
  • Develop and maintain liaisons with state and federal agencies
  • Arrange for expert consultors in areas identified as needing in-depth knowledge
  • Direct the continuity of curriculum and philosophy throughout grades 9-12

 Personnel Administration

  • Create a supportive working environment
  • Assist in recruitment, selection, and recommendation for hiring of all special education personnel at KHS
  • Work with consultants, administrators, and teachers in implementing a sound plan for the professional training of employees
  • Evaluate all special education staff at KHS
  • Provide supervision and professional support to paraprofessionals
  • Serve as a member of the administrative team at KHS

Financial Management and Grantsmanship

  • Ensure submission of and compliance with state and IDEIA forms
  • Monitor grants and reimbursement of special education costs
  • Assure correct NHSEIS data being entered in a timely manner
  • Develop and monitor all special education budget lines at KHS

Public Relations

  • Interact in a positive and cooperative way with all school, family, and community members
  • Provide school boards with reports and attend school board meetings when necessary
  • Encourage awareness and public support for special education
  • Keep in regular communication with sending district school
  • Provide liaison with other community agencies

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:    Salary and work year to be established by the Board

 

EVALUATION:                    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.

 

70% Admin Contract; 30% CEA contract
