POSITION TITLE:   Language Communication Facilitator 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Associates Degree (Bachelor Degree or Higher preferred) with knowledge about childhood language development and social communication. 
  • Conversant in American Sign Language (ASL) able to have simple conversations in ASL. 
  • Completed level 2 or higher ASL coursework, or equivalent training. 
  • Ability to sign on ASL key vocabulary for elementary school curriculum using both spoken English and ASL conceptually accurate signs. 
  • Understands childhood language development and social development. 
  • Understands the impacts of hearing loss on language development. 
  • Experienced working with children who have language delays. 

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

 

JOB GOAL: The Language Communication Facilitator will support receptive and expressive communication for interaction between the student and others (adult and peers) for academic and social experiences in the school setting. 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Support receptive and expressive communication in the educational setting through use of both English and American Sign Language (ASL). 
  2. Support use and increased independence with hearing aids and FM mic systems. 
  3. Consult with teachers including Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to learn and share ongoing communication strategies and skills. 
  4. Teach and reinforce the use of ASL signs for basic needs and academic vocabulary. 
  5. Reinforce vocabulary, lessons, and school expectations with total communication. 
  6. Support reception of vocabulary, skills and academic/social concepts and interactions. 
  7. Support expressive communication of understanding with academic and social concepts. 
  8. Participate in speech-language therapy sessions to carry over learning in other settings. 
  9. Continue learning ASL and related concepts to improve communication support skills. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: In accordance with the Bartlett Non-Contracted Personnel Policies. 

 

WORK YEAR: 187 days/school year, full-time position. 

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Bartlett School Board's policy on Evaluation and Support Staff Personnel. The principal and/or administrative designee will be the evaluator.
