The Conway School District is looking for a qualified professional to fill the position of Food Service Director for our three elementary schools, Kennett Middle School and Kennett High School. This administrative position involves overseeing all aspects of the National School Lunch Program, providing students with access to food that students will be excited to eat while observing state and federal nutrition regulations. The candidate will demonstrate the ability to lead personnel, prepare applications for government surplus of food and federal subsidies, manage department accounting/paperwork requirements, assess and monitor equipment needs, and plan and supervise the preparation of menus for all schools. The candidate will supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate cafeteria employees. The successful candidate will also have excellent communication and organizational skills. A Bachelor’s degree or educational experience with academic major in related field and/or state-recognized certificate for school nutrition directors is required. Relevant work experience is preferred. Starting salary range is $37,000-$45,000 (205 days), depending on experience; significant benefits package.

QUALIFICATIONS: (USDA Hiring Standards)
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major in specific areas;*
OR
- Bachelor's degree in any academic major, AND State-recognized certificate for school nutrition directors;
OR
- Bachelor's degree in any academic major, AND at least 1 year of relevant school nutrition programs experience;
OR
- Associate's degree or equivalent educational experience, with academic major in specific areas,* AND at least 1 year of relevant school nutrition programs experience;
OR
- High school diploma (or GED) AND at least 3 years of relevant experience in school nutrition programs.
*Specific majors/areas of concentration: food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer science, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent
SUPERVISES: All School Food Service Personnel
JOB GOAL: To provide school children with food of high nutritious quality in an atmosphere of cleanliness, cheerfulness and personal caring.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interviews, screens, and recommends appointment of all cafeteria personnel.
- Operates a program of cooperative purchasing among cafeterias.
- Provides necessary information for the development of specifications for all items requiring bids by law or Board policy.
- Makes application for government surplus food for school cafeteria use, and directs its distribution and transfer.
- Standardizes cafeteria accounting procedures in cooperation with the district treasurer's office.
- Prepares applications for federal subsidies.
- Plans and supervises the preparation and serving of menus at all schools.
- Inspects school lunch facilities and operations to insure that standards of diet, cleanliness, health, and safety are being maintained.
- Recommends prices to be charged for various types of lunches, including the price of milk.
- Keeps patrons and the public informed of the menus and services offered by the school cafeterias and of the health and educational benefits gained by children through participation in the school food service program.
- Prepares and administers the departmental budget in conjunction with the Business Administrator.
- Assigns, directs, plans, evaluates, and supervises the work of cafeteria employees.
- Assumes responsibility for the security of food, supplies and revenue.
- Instruct new cafeteria employees in performing their assigned tasks.
- Assumes responsibility for the revenue from cafeteria services until it has been turned over to proper authorities.
- Receives suggestions from student groups regarding preferred foods and meals, and makes every effort to incorporate such suggestions into the food service program in a manner consistent with good nutritional standards.
- Purchases and maintains an inventory of all food, supplies, and equipment.
- Checks all bills and purchase orders for accuracy before presenting them to the business administrator for payment.
- Checks all government reimbursements.
- Supervises the planning and preparation of any special meals required for district-sponsored events.
- Assumes responsibility for checking that all equipment in the cafeteria area is in safe working condition, and notifies the appropriate authority when repairs or replacements are needed.
- Maintains records on food and supplies received and used.
- Keeps employee time records.
- Plans work schedules, and arranges for substitutes when required.
- Prepares all necessary forms to report to the State Department of Education
- Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 205 day contract. Salary and work year to be established by the board.
