JOB DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION   Superintendent of Schools

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

(1) Master’s Degree or higher with emphasis in Educational Leadership or School Administration

(2) At least 5 years of successful experience in district level administration

(3) Demonstrated ability in leadership, public relations, financial management, curriculum, and oral and written skills

(4) Certified or certifiable as a Superintendent of Schools in New Hampshire

 

REPORTS TO        SAU #9 School Board

 

SUPERVISES:          Directly or indirectly, every district employee

 

JOB GOAL             To provide leadership in developing and maintaining the best possible educational programs and services.  To oversee and administer the use of all district facilities, property, and funds with a maximum of efficiency and an ever-present, overriding concern for their impact upon each individual student’s education.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

(1) Attends and participates in all meetings of the Boards and their committees, as appropriate. 

(2) Serves as ex officio member of committees 

(3) Administers, as chief school executive, the development and maintenance of a positive educational program designed to meet the needs of the community, and to carry out the policies of the Boards and laws and legislation, both state and federal.

(4) Prepares and submits to the Boards recommendations relative to all matters requiring Board action, placing before the Boards such necessary and helpful facts, information, and reports as are needed to ensure the making of informed decisions. 

(5) Informs and advises the Boards about the programs, practices, and issues of the schools, and keeps the Boards informed of the activities operating under the Boards’ authority. 

(6) Makes all administrative decisions within the school necessary to the proper function of the school district. 

(7) Conducts a periodic audit of the total school program, and advises the Board on recommendations for the educational advancement of the schools. 

(8) Recommends for appointment, election, employment, or termination all employees of the Boards except professional officers of the Boards, and assigns and transfers any and all employees of the Boards. 

(9) Assumes responsibility for the overall financial planning of the districts and for the preparation of the annual budget, and submits it to the Boards for review and approval.  Attends budget hearings and Municipal Budget Committee meetings.

(10) Establishes and maintains efficient procedures and effective controls for all expenditures of school funds in accordance with the adopted budget.

(11) Maintains directly or through delegation such personnel records, pupil accounting records, business records, and other records which are required by law and by Board policy.

(12) Keeps informed of modern educational thought and practices by advanced study, by visiting school systems elsewhere, by attending educational conferences, by use of technology, and by other appropriate means, and keeps the Boards informed of trends in education.

(13) Establishes and maintains a program of public relations to keep the public well-informed of the activities and needs of the school district, affecting a wholesome and cooperative working relationship between the schools and the community. 

(14) Represents the SAU favorably. 

(15) Performs such other tasks as may from time to time be assigned by the Boards.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:       Twelve month year - salary and work year to be established by the Board.

 

EVALUATION:       Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the SAU #9 Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
