JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Director of Curriculum and Instruction
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 5 years of successful experience in teaching and/or school administration
- Master’s Degree or higher
- Demonstrated competence in verbal and written communication skills
- Certified or certifiable as a Curriculum Director or Assistant Superintendent
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools
SUPERVISES: Such staff members as the Superintendent may designate
JOB GOAL: To assist the Superintendent substantially and effectively in the task of providing leadership in developing, achieving, and maintaining high quality educational programs and services.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the Superintendent in the administration and management of the educational programs for the SAU.
- Supervises and directs personnel issues including recruitment, selection, and employment.
- In the absence of the Superintendent, assumes the responsibilities delegated to them by the Superintendent
- Attends Board and Committee meetings and prepares such reports for the Board as the Superintendent may request.
- Assists in the determination of types of programs needed by the schools and makes appropriate recommendations.
- Reports on the status of district programs and services at the request of the Superintendent.
- Leads all district-wide curriculum teams.
- In conjunction with administrators, plan and implement new teacher onboarding and mentoring programs.
- Shares a leadership role in curriculum planning and inservice education for the professional staff.
- Serves upon assignment by the Superintendent as a resource person to all directors and principals in the administrative unit.
- Interprets the programs, philosophy, and policies of the district to staff, students, and the community at large.
- Maintains liaison with social, professional, civic, volunteer, and other community agencies and groups having an interest in the schools.
- Plays a significant leadership role in fostering professional growth and building of staff morale throughout the district.
- Evaluates assigned administrative staff.
- Represents the SAU favorably.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve month year - salary and work year to be established by the Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
